A 50-year-old woman was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos Island on Friday, November 25, for allegedly defrauding her friend of $4,500.

The accused, Editha Alimario who was docked on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and theft, however, pleaded not guilty, Punch reports.

Prosecutor, Insp. Nurudeen Thomas told the court that the accused committed the offences between March 11 and May 30 at Cooper Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to the inspector, the accused defrauded her friend, one Abisola Kola-Daisi, of $4,500, which is equivalent to N1.8million, under the guise of helping her get a domestic staff.

Alimerio reportedly refused to render the service or return the money given to her for the service.
Thomas said the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 (1)(a) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs F.O. Ikobayo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum before adjourning the case to December 1, for hearing.
